Teaching
Teaching Philosophy
My teaching philosophy is grounded in connection, equity, and respect for the individual. I value students’ ideas, feelings, lived experiences, and personal expression through movement far more than any notion of innate talent. I believe that anyone can become a strong dancer if they are supported, challenged thoughtfully, and treated with care. In both dance and formal education, I am deeply interested in how people learn. Through my work with the Calgary Board of Education supporting children with learning challenges, I have developed a strong understanding of diverse learning styles, exceptionalities, and inclusive teaching practices.
My goal as a tap educator is to create accessible, welcoming spaces that encourage curiosity and risk-taking. I believe dance pedagogy should prioritize humanity over technical perfection by placing people before product, and process before outcome. Beyond teaching steps, I aim to mentor dancers on how to continue their journey beyond the classroom, engage meaningfully with the tap community, pursue professional opportunities, and sustain a lifelong relationship with the form. I am especially passionate about beginner-focused education. By creating accessible and welcoming tap dance training, we strengthen our community and ensure its future.
